The construction industry presents a unique set of mental health stressors due to its high-risk environment, long working hours, workforce diversity, and transient employment patterns. Yet mental health remains a neglected dimension of workplace safety. This seminar is designed to raise awareness and build capacity among construction professionals to recognise, manage, and respond to mental health challenges faced by workers and supervisors on-site.
Participants will explore psychosocial risk factors, stress-response behaviours, stigma issues, and the correlation between mental health and safety incidents. Evidence-based approaches will be introduced, including workplace interventions, organisational support mechanisms, and frameworks such as Total Worker Health® and ISO 45003:2021 (Psychosocial Risk Management). Realistic site-based scenarios and structured reflection will be used to contextualise learning.
