What is the Occupational First Aid Refresher Course?

The Occupational First Aid Refresher Course is designed for individuals seeking to renew their occupational first aid certification. This course refreshes critical skills, including CPR and AED, to ensure compliance with industry regulations. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate and an ID card, validating their continued competency in occupational first aid for an additional two years.

 

Course Description

The Occupational First Aid Refresher Course aims to provide attendees with the relevant skills and knowledge required to maintain their occupational first aider role at the workplace. As part of the Workplace Safety and Health Requirement, Occupational First Aiders are required to maintain a valid certification to meet mandatory requirements. The Occupational First Aid Refresher Course covers all the topics required for workplace first aid proficiency in a shortened format for experienced first aiders. Includes CPR+AED training and recertification.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the duties and responsibilities of First Aider

  • Apply Cardio – Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • List the legal requirements under Workplace Safety and Health (First Aid) Regulations for the workplace

  • Check and pack contents of First Aid Box

  • Apply first aid to accident victims in the workplace

  • Manage a medical emergency at the workplace

  • Manage victims of hazardous chemicals exposure

  • Identify common workplace accidents requiring first aid treatment

 

Target Audience

The course targeted at individuals seeking to renew their Occupational First Aid Course Certificate to continue as an occupational first aider.

 

Pre-requisites

  • ES WPLN Level 5 & above or equivalent

  • Completed Occupational First Aid Course with CPR+AED (OFA) and currently holding a valid OFAC certificate

  • Must be physically fit and able to render help to another individual during an emergency

 

Assessments

Written Examination:

  • Duration: 40 minutes
  • Format: A minimum of 40 Multiple Choice Questions

    • 20 MCQs on OFA

    • 10 MCQs on CPR

    • 10 MCQs on AED

Practical Examination:

  • Duration: 20 minutes per participant

  • Components: Bandaging, CPR+AED, and case scenarios

 

Passing Criteria:

  • Passing rate for OFA MCQs: 70%

  • Passing rate for CPR + AED MCQs: 80%

    Note:

  • If a participant fails the CPR-AED section, they are considered to have failed the entire examination and must retake the whole course.

  • If a participant fails the theory examination or the bandaging practical, they only need to retake the respective failed section.

 

Certification

Participants must have a minimum attendance of 75% to be eligible for the assessment. Those who successfully complete the course and pass the assessments will be awarded a Certificate of Successful Completion and an ID card. The certificate is valid for 2 years.

Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments, and attain 100% competency

SCAL Academy reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria

Training provider will submit trainee details via SSG Training Provider Gateway and will bill in NETT fee if trainee is eligible for training grant. Note that all grants are subject for final approval by SSG.

Only participants with 75% attendance will be eligible to sit for the assessment. Certificate of Successful Completion and ID card will be awarded to participants who successfully completed the course and passed the assessments. Validity period of certificate is 2 years.

SCAL is accredited by Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) and the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) under ISO 29993:2017 to offer Occupational First Aid Refresher Course. The WSH (First Aid) Regulations (Cap. 354A, S65) Reg.5 stipulates that every person appointed as a first aider shall

(a) have successfully completed a training course acceptable to the Commissioner; and

(b) undergo such subsequent re-training in first-aid treatment as the Commissioner may require.



Replacement/Postponement

A notice of replacement / postponement together with the full particulars of the new participant (for replacement) must be given to us AT LEAST 3 working days before course commencement. A charge of S$50 (replacement) or S$100 (postponement) will be imposed on such changes. Appeal of Assessment Result: (a) Students who wish to appeal for review of assessment results, please fill the Assessment Appeal Form that can be downloaded from website. There will be an admin fee of $60.00 (incl GST, non-refundable).
