Course Description

This course teaches techniques in problem-solving and decision making, including root cause analysis of problem, generating and evaluating alternative solutions, making appropriate decisions, and taking responsibility for the decisions within own circle of influence.

 

Target Audience

This course is ideal for learners who want to develop their problem-solving skills and become proficient in problem classification and resolution. Participants will learn how to identify the root cause of problems, analyze data to make informed decisions, and provide effective recommendations for resolving issues. Through real-world case studies and hands-on activities, learners will gain practical experience and the confidence to tackle any problem. This course will equip participants with the essential skills necessary to succeed in any industry or profession and stand out in the crowd as a problem-solving expert.

 

Course Outline

  • Identify symptom(s) of potential problem(s) at the workplace

  • Identify deviations to workplace norms and practices from symptom(s) identified

  • Use of appropriate tools and techniques to identify possible root cause(s) of problem(s)

  • Identify impact of the problem(s) on ones job responsibilities and other parties involved

  • Use creative and logical thinking to generate and select ideas to solve problem

  • Use pertinent criteria to evaluate selected ideas to choose the most desirable solution(s) to the problem(s)

  • Develop an action plan to implement the chosen solution(s)

  • Use appropriate modes to communicate chosen solution(s) and action plan to relevant parties

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented solution(s) and action plan and initiate corrective actions where necessary

  • Identify preventive measure(s) to avoid recurrence of similar problem(s) in the future

 

Course Outcome

The problem identification course provides participants with a comprehensive set of skills to identify and define problems, analyze data, evaluate implications, generate alternative solutions, select and implement effective solutions, and communicate recommendations. Upon completion of the course, participants will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and tools to approach problem-solving in a structured and effective manner. They will be able to identify the root cause of problems, consider their impact on stakeholders, generate creative and innovative solutions, and communicate their recommendations effectively. The course outcomes will help participants to become valuable assets to any organization, making them well-equipped to handle challenges and succeed in their professional lives.

 

Pre-Requisites

  • Min 18 years old.
  • Primary school level onwards.
  • Able to read, write and speak in English (WLPN Level 4 and above)

Assessment

  • 2 hours of written test
  • 1 hour of role play

Certification

A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be issued to candidates who are certified competent in this competency unit.

Register

Replacement/Postponement

A notice of replacement / postponement together with the full particulars of the new participant (for replacement) must be given to us AT LEAST 3 working days before course commencement. A charge of S$50 (replacement) or S$100 (postponement) will be imposed on such changes. Appeal of Assessment Result: (a) Students who wish to appeal for review of assessment results, please fill the Assessment Appeal Form that can be downloaded from website. There will be an admin fee of $60.00 (incl GST, non-refundable).
