Course Description

The Workshop to Enhance the Safety of Crane Operation course covers the latest legislation of lifting operations; safe lifting procedures of different type of cranes and various case studies will be discussed to identify causes of cranes accidents. This workshop is designed for MOM registered crane operators to raise their safety competencies in the operation of cranes e.g., Crawler Crane, Dockside Tower Crane, Mobile Crane (Truck Mounted), Tower Crane (Luffing Jib) and Tower Crane (Saddle Jib).

 

Course Topics

  • Workplace Safety and Health Act and its Subsidiary Legislation

  • SS 536: 2008 Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Mobile Cranes

  • SS 559: 2010 Code of Practice for Safe Use of Tower Cranes

  • Code of Practice on Safe Lifting Operations in the Workplaces

  • Interpretation of load charts and related terminologies for different types of cranes

  • Case Studies

 

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • State the legal requirements in lifting operation

  • Explain safety precautions in crane operation

  • Describe pre-operational checks on cranes and lifting gears

  • Comply with safe work procedures

  • Interpret load/capacity chart for cranes

 

Target Audience

Crane Operators who need to renew their registration with MOM.

 

Pre-requisites

MOM-Registered Crane Operator. (Please produce your crane operator license when registering for the course)

Assessment

Written Assessment

  • Section A: 20 MCQs

  • Section B: 5 MCQs on load chart

 

Passing Criteria

Section A: 20 MCQs (60% and above)

Section B: 5 MCQs on load chart (100%)

Trainees must pass both Section A+B in order to be considered passed in Written Test.

  • The written test/assessment is applicable only to 1st time WESCO participants.

  • Participants who have passed the WESCO assessment/test previously would need to attend the course only and need not attempt the written tests/assessments.

Certification

Participants who achieved 100% attendance and pass the course assessment will be issued with Certificate for them to renew their registration with MOM.

Register

Replacement /Postponement

A notice of replacement / postponement together with the full particulars of the new participant (for replacement) must be given to us AT LEAST 3 working days before course commencement. A charge of S$50 (replacement) or S$100 (postponement) will be imposed on such changes. Appeal of Assessment Result: (a) Students who wish to appeal for review of assessment results, please fill the Assessment Appeal Form that can be downloaded from website. There will be an admin fee of $60.00 (incl GST, non-refundable).
