Best Practices for Green and Gracious Builder – Green, Friendlier and Socially Responsible

Understand how to successfully implement the best green and gracious practices within the construction industry

Building and Construction Authority, Singapore (BCA)’s efforts at developing a sustainable built environment have gained sufficient momentum and been well accepted by the industry. Builders do contribute to environmental sustainability and environmental protection when they go green and adopt ‘friendlier’ construction site management and practices. It is also important for builders to be socially responsible to the environment, the neighbours and general public by gracious practices during construction. Hence the Green and Gracious Builder Scheme (GGBS) was introduced in February 2009 to raise the environmental consciousness and professionalism of builders.

The GGBS small and medium construction (SMC) was introduced in April 2014 to encourage SMC firms to work in a smart and responsible manner. GGBS is also a benchmark of a builder’s corporate social responsibility to the environment and the general public. To stay relevant with the dynamics of the industry, GGBS version 2.1 was introduced in October 2016
