What is the Occupational First Aid Course?

The Occupational First Aid Course is a CERT-recognised training program designed to equip individuals with essential skills in CPR, AED, and managing workplace emergencies. The course follows the guidelines of the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC). Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate validating their competency in occupational first aid, along with a first aider ID card valid for 2 years.

 

Course Description

SCAL Academy's Occupational First Aid Course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to provide effective first aid to adult casualties in the workplace. The course is aligned with the guidelines and methods stipulated by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC), and is recognized as the CERT First Aider Course with CPR + AED.

 

Course Topics

The course covers a wide range of topics including Principles and Practice of First Aid, Wounds, Bleeding & Shock, Cardio – Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and more.

  • Fractures and Soft Tissue Injuries

  • Handling and Transportation of the Injured

  • Burn Injuries

  • Industrial Toxicology

  • Safety & Accident Prevention

  • Management of Medical Emergencies

 

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the duties and responsibilities of First Aider

  • Apply Cardio – Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • List the legal requirements under Workplace Safety and Health (First Aid) Regulations for the workplace

  • Check and pack contents of First Aid Box

  • Apply first aid to accident victims in the workplace

  • Manage a medical emergency at the workplace

  • Manage victims of hazardous chemicals exposure

  • Identify common workplace accidents requiring first aid treatment

 

Target Audience

The course is suitable for any individuals interested in first aid training, as well as those who have been assigned as a workplace first aider or who are WSH professionals.

 

Pre-requisites

  • To have at least ES WPLN Level 5 & above or equivalent 

  • Be physically able to perform CPR skills while kneeling on the floor

 

Assessments

Written Assessment & Practical Assessment

  • Written Assessment for 20 OFAC MCQ: 70% to Pass

  • Written Assessment for 20 CPR + AED MCQ: 80% to Pass

  • Practical Assessment: Obtain ‘C’ (Competent)

Certification

Participants who successfully complete the course and pass the assessments will receive a Certificate of Successful Completion and ID card. The validity period of the certificate is 2 years.

Funding Eligibility

Singaporeans and Permanent Residents (PRs) are eligible for up to 70% SSG Funding for this course.

Funding Information

Funding Eligibility

Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents

Trainee must achieve at least 75% attendance

Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments, and attain 100% competency

SCAL Academy reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria

Training provider will submit trainee details via SSG Training Provider Gateway and will bill in NETT fee if trainee is eligible for training grant. Note that all grants are subject for final approval by SSG.

Only participants with 75% attendance will be eligible to sit for the assessment. Certificate of Successful Completion and ID card will be awarded to participants who successfully completed the course and passed the assessments. Validity period of certificate is 2 years.

SCAL is accredited by Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) and the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) under ISO 29993:2017 to offer Occupational First Aid Course. The WSH (First Aid) Regulations (Cap. 354A, S65) Reg.5 stipulates that every person appointed as a first-aider shall

(a) have successfully completed a training course acceptable to the Commissioner; and

(b) undergo such subsequent re-training in first-aid treatment as the Commissioner may require.


Replacement/Postponement

A notice of replacement / postponement together with the full particulars of the new participant (for replacement) must be given to us AT LEAST 3 working days before course commencement. A charge of S$50 (replacement) or S$100 (postponement) will be imposed on such changes. Appeal of Assessment Result: (a) Students who wish to appeal for review of assessment results, please fill the Assessment Appeal Form that can be downloaded from website. There will be an admin fee of $60.00 (incl GST, non-refundable).
