What is OEPT | Operate Explosive Powered Tools Course?

OEPT | Operate Explosive Powered Tools is a mandatory course for individuals working with explosive powered tools in engineering, building, construction, and renovation industries. The course provides essential training to ensure safe operation and compliance with WSH regulations. Participants will gain certified expertise in handling explosive powered tools, understanding safety requirements, performing operational checks, and implementing hazard control measures.

 

Course Description

The “Operate Explosive Powered Tools” course aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills in operating explosive powered tools in accordance with WSH regulations.

The “Operate Explosive Powered Tools” is a mandatory WSH training course for all workers who are dealing with explosive powered tools in any forms of engineering works for building and construction and renovation industries.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • State the safety requirements of the WSH (Explosive Powered Tools) Regulations

  • Identify the types of explosives powered tools and principal parts of explosive powered tools

  • Identify correct power selection and positioning

  • Select the correct type of charges/fasteners for various types of base materials

  • Carry out pre-operations safety checks for tools and accessories

  • Operate explosive powered tools safely

  • Load and unload cartridges

  • Execute troubleshooting procedures and emergency response procedure

  • Clean, maintain and store explosive powered tools and accessories after use

  • Perform routine check and clean of tools and accessories

  • Perform fixing to concrete and steel

  • Perform tools disassembly and reassembly

  • Identify hazards related to explosive powered tool operation and implement control measures

 

Target Audience

Any individual dealing with explosive powered tools in any forms of engineering works for building & construction and renovation industries.

 

Pre-requisites

At least 18 years old

Recommended for the trainee to achieve WSQ ESS

  • Employability Skills (ES) Workplace Literacy level 3 and above.

Must be a Singaporean Citizen, Singapore PR or holder of a valid work permit

Must pass a "colour blindness test" before being admitted to the course

  • Not be visually handicapped which includes colour blindness.

 

Assessments

Assessment

learners are required to sit for a 1-hour assessment which comprises of

  • 30 mins of written test and

  • 30 mins of practical performance

 

Passing Criteria

  • 75% - written test

  • 100% competency - practical performance

Certification

A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be issued to candidates who are certified competent in this competency unit.

The learner must not be colour-blind. This is important for the learner to differentiate between green and red colours as this will affect their choice on selecting correct charges for the fasteners.

SCAL would like to encourage prospective course participants to inform SCAL in advance of any special needs such as dietary, medical needs or difficulty in movements.

Replacement/Postponement

A notice of replacement / postponement together with the full particulars of the new participant (for replacement) must be given to us AT LEAST 3 working days before course commencement. A charge of S$50 (replacement) or S$100 (postponement) will be imposed on such changes. Appeal of Assessment Result: (a) Students who wish to appeal for review of assessment results, please fill the Assessment Appeal Form that can be downloaded from website. There will be an admin fee of $60.00 (incl GST, non-refundable).
