A falsework design is only as safe as the clarity of its plans, competency of those interpreting and using them and behaviours of those overseeing construction allow it to be. This sharing examines common shortfalls observed and how these could contribute to failures. It also draws attention to table formwork safety, which saw a spate of accidents in 2021.

 

Er Yeo Poh Hwa, Senior Principal Specialist, Occupational Safety and Health Inspectorate Ministry of Manpower (MOM)

Er Yeo Poh Hwa is a Senior Principal Specialist with the Occupational Safety & Health Inspectorate at the Ministry of Manpower's Occupational Safety & Health Division, where he provides specialist support on workplace safety and health matters. A registered professional engineer in Singapore, he is also QECP trained and a DfSP. Poh Hwa brings over two decades of experience spanning site supervision, project management, and engineering consultancy across both the public and private sectors. Since 2018, he has focused on law enforcement and raising competency standards within the construction industry and actively participates in the review of WSH approved codes of practices.
