Understanding Code of Practice on Chief Executives' and Board of Directors' WSH Duties

Understand how Construction leaders can demonstrate leadership in improving WSH performance and management.

Overview

As chief executives and board of directors of companies (‘Company Directors”) steer the operations and oversee the management of their organisations, their influence and control over their workplace resources and priorities ultimately drive WSH practices at workplaces. To protect their employees’ lives and well-being, Company Directors must prioritise WSH and set the safety culture for their organisations. Section 48(1) of the Workplace Safety and Health Act has always held all Company Directors responsible to prove that they had exercised due diligence to prevent workplace accidents. The Code of Practice on Chief Executives' and Board of Directors' WSH Duties outline the desired outcomes in organisational systems and culture that Company Directors should seek to achieve in order to comply with the WSH Act, and lists examples of reasonably practicable steps that the Company Directors can take in this regard.
