Understanding The Building Control Act

Introduction

Every building project in Singapore – from design and construction to completion and occupation, is governed by the Building Control Act. Administered by the Building and Construction Authority, the Act establishes the legal framework for ensuring that building works comply with stringent standards of structural safety, accessibility, environmental sustainability, buildability and quality. It also defines the statutory duties and responsibilities of developers, Qualified Persons, builders, site supervisors and accredited checkers throughout the project life-cycle. A sound understanding of the Building Control Act is essential for managing project risks, avoiding enforcement actions, and ensuring successful project delivery.
