What is SkillsFuture Credit?

SkillsFuture Credit is a unique initiative by the Singapore government aimed at encouraging lifelong learning and skills development among its citizens. The credits are allocated to Singapore Citizens to offset out-of-pocket expenses for work-skills related courses. These credits can be used in conjunction with existing government course fee subsidies, making SkillsFuture Credit an excellent resource for career advancement and personal development, particularly in workplace safety and health (WSH) training.

SkillsFuture Credit Top-Up

All Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above in 2016 received an opening credit of S$500. For those below 25 years old in 2016, they will receive $500 worth of credits when they turn 25.

One-Off SkillsFuture Credit Top-Up (2020)

In Budget 2020, the government announced a one-off SkillsFuture Credit top-up of $500 for every Singapore Citizen aged 25 and above as of 31 December 2020. This additional credit, available from 1 October 2020, can be used for SkillsFuture courses to enhance employability and skills.

Additional SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career Support)

Starting 1 May 2024, the SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) can be utilized to offset out-of-pocket course fees for selected courses with better employability outcomes. These courses include:

  • Full qualifications and shorter modules from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL)

  • MOE-subsidised full qualifications from the University of the Arts Singapore and other arts institutions

  • SkillsFuture Career Transition Programmes (SCTP)

  • Courses aligned with Progressive Wage Model (PWM) sectors

  • Workplace Literacy and Numeracy courses

SkillsFuture Credit Expiry

The expiry dates for SkillsFuture Credits vary based on the top-up tranches. The original SkillsFuture Credits do not expire. However, the 2020 top-up and the Additional SkillsFuture Credit for individuals aged 40 to 60 will expire by the end of 2025.

SkillsFuture Funding & Subsidy (SSG Funding)

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) provides various subsidies to ensure course fees remain affordable for both Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs). These subsidies apply to both self-sponsored and company-sponsored applicants.

Eligible individuals can benefit from additional subsidies up to 90% through the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES).
